Indiana angler's record-breaking catfish breaks Michigan's

An Indiana fisherman caught a record-breaking catfish in Michigan.

Lloyd Tanner from Hobart caught a 53.35-pound, 48-inch flathead catfish in the St Joe River, a tributary of Lake Michigan.

The previous state record was 52 pounds and 46.02 inches.

According to the Michigan DNR, your fish must surpass the existing state record weight and be validated by a DNR fisheries scientist.

All state record fish must be weighed on a grocery shop scale.

Tanner informed the DNR he fishes on St Joe River every weekend with the Michigan Catfish Anglers Trail. "Since 1987, I've fished in Michigan.
