Hackers have devised a new technique to spread malware

The PDF contains a "verified" Word document. The victim is prompted to access a second file after opening the attachment.

"The file's been validated" PDF, JPEG, XLSX, DOCX files may include programmes, macros, or viruses.

This may make the victim think their PDF reader scanned the file and it's safe.

The Word file comes with a macro that, if activated, downloads and runs a remote RTF file.

The file then tried to download Snake Keylogger, a "modular info-stealer with strong persistence, defensive evasion, credential access, data harvesting, and data exfiltration capabilities"

Researchers observed that attackers are exploiting Equation Editor flaw CVE-2017-11882.
